What happens to static electricity in printing machines

Printing static electricity is often generated during the printing process due to friction, resulting in a decrease in printing labels quality. This often leads to phenomena such as burrs, missed prints, graphic and text dots, patterns, and tear like water droplets.

Reasons for occurrence:

The main cause of static electricity generation is friction. When two solid materials come into contact and quickly leave, one material has a greater ability to adsorb electrons and transfer them to the surface of the material, resulting in a negative charge on the surface where electrons are obtained, while the other material carries a positive charge due to the surface losing electrons.

Generate consequences:

  1. 1.The phenomenon of burrs caused by static electricity

  2. When printing stickers graphic and text parts, solid parts, and thick lines of large characters, there is a splashing of ink in the form of hair, resulting in a flying ink resembling a beard.

2. Leakage caused by static electricity

Due to the influence of static electricity, some sticker label cannot be printed or printed in place, resulting in missed printing; When laying the white ink on the bottom, there was rejection, causing gaps.

3. Static electricity causes flower spots in graphics and text

The phenomenon of electrostatic suction causes dust and impurities to adhere to the printing label resulting in many uneven dots on the labels and text after printing.

4. Static electricity causes speckle phenomenon

Some patterns with different shapes were formed in the large area of the pattern, but there was no improvement when adjusting the embossing roller.

5. Static electricity causes "tear like" water droplets

During full page printing, water droplets resembling "tears" appear in multi-color overlay printing, some light and some heavy. It is not easy to occur when the machine speed is slow, but it occurs when the machine speed is fast

Resolvent:

  1. 1.When installing the printing machine, it is necessary to install a grounding wire, and the ink circulation pump should also be grounded.

2. Control the environmental hygiene of the workshop, maintain cleanliness, and reduce dust.

3. Control the temperature and humidity of the workshop well. It is best to control the workshop temperature at the standard temperature of 18 ℃ -25 ℃ and the humidity between 55% -75%.

4. Install static eliminators in the various color sections of the printing machine. High end printing machines are equipped with static eliminators, and those that are not installed should be purchased and installed by themselves.

5. Printing manufacturers should prepare their own anti-static agents. In case of severe static electricity, they should be added to the ink to eliminate static electricity.

6. If burrs or missed prints occur, the working viscosity of the printing ink should be increased, and slow drying diluents should be used to reduce the machine speed.
