Spot color refers to the use of a specific ink to print a color during printing, rather than synthesizing the colors C, M, Y, and K.
Spot color ink is ore mixed by printing factories or produced by ink factories. For each spot color of printed materials, there is a dedicated color plate corresponding to it during printing. Using spot colors can make the color more accurate. Although colors cannot be accurately represented on computers, the accurate color of the color on paper can be seen through the ore printed color swatches of standard color matching systems, such as the Antone color matching system which creates detailed color swatches.
1. What kind of products will use spot color printing
Label stickers are often composed of uniform color blocks of different colors or regular gradient color blocks and text. These color blocks and text can be printed with four primary color inks after color separation, or special color inks can be mixed and only one type of special color ink can be printed on the same color block. Sometimes, it is necessary to choose spot color printing when considering both improving printing quality and saving overprint times.
2.What are the visual differences in color effects between spot printed color blocks and four-color overlay printed color blocks?
Spot color printing is obtained by mixing according to the principle of color reduction. Its color brightness is low and saturation is high. Spot color blocks with uniform ink color are usually printed on the spot, and the ink volume should be appropriately increased. When the thickness of the ink layer on the plate is large, the sensitivity of color changes to changes in ink layer thickness will decrease, making it easier to obtain a printing effect with uniform and thick ink color.
3.From the perspective of improving product quality, what kind of products are suitable for using spot color printing?
For large areas of dark color blocks, using four-color printing technology may require the stacking of high salt dot dots of several colors, and a thick ink layer can easily cause dirt on the back; By using spot color printing technology, only one color needs to be printed, and it is not easy for the back to get dirty. Using four-color printing technology, certain parts of the text and images may be composed of multiple colors; By using spot color printing technology, only one color is printed on the corresponding area, avoiding the possibility of overprinting errors.
