When fingertips touch the golden pattern at the neck of the perfume, the metallic luster on the cool glass can hide a process dialogue spanning thousands of years. Hot stamping, an ancient technique that transforms temperature and pressure into art, still writes modern legends on square labels to this day.
Part1、 Principle of hot stamping process
Hot stamping (also known as "hot stamping aluminum foil") is a process of transferring the metal layer in an aluminum foil to the surface of a substrate through hot pressing transfer. The core process includes:
1. Preparation stage: Customize metal hot stamping plates (commonly copper plates, zinc plates) for engraving graphic and textual content, and select suitable electroplated aluminum foil (gold foil paper).
2. Transfer printing process:
-Heat the hot stamping plate to 100-160 ℃ and press it onto the substrate with electroplated aluminum foil;
-The coating of electroplated aluminum peels off when heated, and the metal layer adheres precisely to the graphic area;
-After cooling, remove the waste foil to create a metallic luster effect.
Key control points: Temperature, pressure, and time need to be adjusted according to material characteristics. Low temperature can lead to poor adhesion, while high temperature may cause yellowing of the fabric; Insufficient pressure affects the fastness, while excessive pressure can collapse the three-dimensional pattern.
Part2、 Reasons for commonly used hot stamping of label stickers
1. Improve texture and recognition
Metallic luster (such as gold, silver, laser) endows labels with a high-end and luxurious feel, enhancing visual impact, suitable for high value-added products such as cosmetics and alcohol.
2. Durability and stability
The metal layer is tightly bonded to the material, with strong wear resistance and weather resistance, and is not easily faded or scratched after long-term use.
3. Wide process compatibility-It can be hot pressed on various materials such as paper, plastic, fabric, leather, etc., breaking through the limitations of traditional printing.
4. Anti counterfeiting and customization
Holographic hot stamping can embed anti-counterfeiting patterns to enhance product safety.
Part3、 Adhesive material suitable for hot stamping
Hot stamping has high requirements for material temperature resistance (to withstand 140-160 ℃), and the following common adhesive materials are applicable:

Electrochemical aluminum foil provides rich colors and textures, and the selection is based on product positioning:
1. Basic color scheme
-Classic colors: gold, matte gold, silver (preferred for business and luxury);
-Bright color scheme: red, blue, green, black (highlighting youthfulness or brand theme colors).
2. Special effects category
-Laser series: Laser gold/silver (dynamic dazzling light, eye-catching);
-Texture series: Shattered dots, diamond patterns, flowing sand patterns (increasing touch and depth);
-Anti counterfeiting series: positioning holographic patterns (cigarette labels, high-end anti-counterfeiting labels).
Part5、 Process precautions
Hot stamping and printing sequence:
Some designs require "hot stamping before printing" (such as cigarette labels), requiring strong adhesion of the aluminum foil and no indentation on the edges.
Fineness limit:
Thin fonts (<1mm) or complex patterns require high-precision copperplate engraving, which is costly.
The hot stamping process enhances the value of labels through metallic texture, and its wide adaptability and diverse effects make it one of the preferred processes in the packaging and labeling industry.
